Prof. Gary Koser, P. E., of the Advanced Technology Division, has enjoyed teaching at IRSC since 1996. For 12 years, he was Department Chairman and during that time the initial Digital Media Bachelor degree and 3 Associates in Science degrees were developed. At IRSC he has received the 1st Johnson Endowed Chair for Teaching Excellence, Faculty of the Month, League of Innovation, and numerous other awards.
Prof. Koser has been a licensed Professional Engineer since 1975. He earned a B.S. Degree from the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee majoring in Structural/Civil Engineering. He earned a Masters of Engineering degree in Engineering Management and Industrial Engineering from the University of Florida.
In its final year, Prof. Koser is a Co-Principal Investigator on the NSF FIT S-STEM Scholarship initiative with the Florida Institute of Technology (FIT) in Melbourne, Florida. He is a former member of the Engineering Technology Curriculum Committee for the Florida Dept. of Education and also served on the State Course Numbering Committee for Engineering Technology. He is a member of the Engineering Technology Forum for State Colleges. He has traveled to Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Australia, and England to train engineers and to evaluate engineering curriculum.
Prof. Koser has co-authored 11 textbooks on the subject of AutoCAD that have been published by Pearson/Prentice-Hall as part of their Autodesk Design Institute Series as shown on the "My Books" page of this site.
As a recently honored Life Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Prof. Koser has served as National Chairman on the Computer Practices Committee. Currently he is a member of the National Committee on the Civil Engineering Technologist and was a contributor in the creation of the Civil Engineering Technologist Book of Knowledge for ASCE. published in 2019 He has also served on numerous advisory boards, committees, and panels related to engineering and teaching over the years for regional, state, and national agencies, meetings and conventions.
Prior to entering teaching full-time Prof. Koser worked as a professional consulting engineer for over 20 years for government agencies and private consultants. For 9 years he grew ECOM Associates, a small structural/civil software company, into an international software marketing company. He has worked as a trainer for Computer Aided Drafting and Geographic Information System national software companies and for various regional and local software dealers. He has created and presented customized training for various organizations in Florida and around the world..
